Solar Panels on the Church Roof
On 3 November, after lengthy debate, the Church Council approved the fitting of solar panels to the Church roof to generate electricity. These will be fitted before Christmas. There are several reasons for doing this.
Income for the Church
Each year for the next 25 years, the Church will receive a payment of, initially, about £1,750. This will be index linked, guaranteed by the Government.
Free electricity
When there is enough light in the sky, the electricity generated will be available to the Church, reducing our need to import electricity from the grid and reducing our electricity bill.
Helping fulfil our mission
“We will respect God’s World; using as little energy as possible, creating as little waste as possible. We will leave the world a better place for everyone’s children and grandchildren.” This is the sixth out of seven resolutions approved by the Church Council that define our purpose and mission. Installing the panels is part of our commitment as an Eco congregation.
A visible statement
The panels on the roof, whilst not an eyesore, will be visible to passing traffic, reinforcing the message that our Church is debating issues relevant to modern life and is keen to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem.
Generosity
This has only been possible because of the generosity of members of the Church. Of the total cost of about £15,000, we already have over half pledged by families in the congregation. Any money that we do not raise in this way will be taken from the legacy money so generously left to the Church by members who gratefully remembered our needs in their wills.
PLEDGES RECEIVED TOWARDS OUR GOAL: £13,895 (inclusive of Gift Aid)

If you would like to invest specifically to this worthy cause, whether £5 or £5000, please tell our treasurer, John Sykes.
